The gender policy within the ZPRP follows the recommendations in two international programmes - the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
How can women contribute more to community and national development?

The major strategic thrusts are that there should be:

bulletintegration of gender concerns in all development policies and plans
bulletinclusion of gender disaggregated data in all official statistics
bulletincreased access to basic social services for women
bulletincreased female access to secondary and tertiary education
bulletrevision of laws and regulations that discriminate against women
bulletincreased sensitisation of all people against traditions that discriminate against women
bulletincreased numbers of women in key posts in the political and administrative systems
bulletprogrammes aimed at the economic empowerment of women, especially in rural areas
bulletincreased economic opportunities for women through increased access to employment, credit and land
